First in the cycle of the Chinese Zodiac,
The Year of the Rat occurs once every 12 years.
Today’s celebrations include spectacular
dragon and lion dances around the streets
and firework displays in Leicester Square.
But for me, it’s all about the bubble tea.
If you’re wondering about the frogspawn
sitting at the bottom of the cup, we call those
little beauties the "pearls", or the “black boba”.
They’re made from tapioca starch.
And they’re the best bit. Trust me on this.
And may all the blessings
and delights
of this new rat year be yours.
