Howard K. Stern is officially off the hook in the Anna Nicole Smith prescription drug case.
After Anna Nicole died of an overdose in 2007, her lover was accused of getting drugs for her under fake names, but People reports, "There was no evidence he intended fraud or deception" when doing so. Apparently, HKS didn't know it was against the law to use an alias to get a prescription for a celebrity or something. Even though he was found guilty by the jury on two out of nine charges of conspiracy, the judge threw the case out anyway.
Anna Nicole's psychiatrist/neighbor, Dr. Khristine Eroshevich, also had two conspiracy charges against her dismissed today. Another one of her charges was reduced to a misdemeanor and so she will be on probation for one year.
The L.A. District Attorney office is pissed at the ruling. Their statement read that the judge's decision "denigrates the substantial investigative efforts conducted by the state Department of Justice and the Medical Board. It diminishes the huge social problem of prescription drug abuse facilitated by irresponsible caretakers and unscrupulous medical professionals."
So talking about Michael Jackson's case right there...
The funny part (well not funny at all actually) is that Howard K. Stern is a lawyer. As if he didn't know what he was doing was a crime... just saying.
