Rutgers University has lined up a Nobel prize-winning author to speak at their commencement this May. The ceremony will be held in a football stadium which seats 52,000 people and she will be paid $30,000. Last week, NJ.com reports Snooki was paid $32,000 to do a Q&A session at the student centre at Rutgers...
While novelist Toni Morrison will be inspiring grads to make a positive difference in the world, follow their dreams, become successful and all that junk... The Jersey Shore star taught students how to create their own hair pouf and the proper way to fist pump. Her advice: "Study hard, but party harder." Priorities.
It has to be known that it was the University who booked Morrison, and the students union who booked Snooki. Morrison's paycheck comes from PepsiCo who have the rights to all the vending machines on campus. Snooki's paycheck comes from mandatory student activity fees which are part of tuition.
When you pay an MTV reality star who didn't even graduate community college to speak at a University, of course it's going to make headlines. Especially when you pay her more than a prestigious writer. But it's not uncommon for student committees to book big names at any University for an expensive price. And any one school usually puts on about a hundred events a year for student entertainment which they attend for "free". Free as in you already paid for this shit so if you come out, you don't need to pay cover.
But on the other hand, if you were a student who was actually focused on studying and not attending any of the garbage which you had no choice but to pre-pay for, this would be pretty aggravating. Even more aggravating than watching Ronnie and Sammie have the same savage fight for the 13,056th time.
"I'm done!"
