Marie Claire bashes "fatties"

So this is irresponsible journalism...

Marie Claire, a fashion/beauty/health/relationships magazine, has let one of their writers Maury Kelly bash obese actors on television.  Specifically, the stars of the new CBS sitcom Mike & Molly.  (Which, is a very funny show by the way.)

In case you don't know, Mike & Molly is the story about two people who meet at an 'Over-eaters Anonymous' group and start dating.  It's actually very refreshing to see a show on TV that nobody else would dare make, even though plus-sized couples are so common in everyday life.  If you saw a plus-sized couple walking hand-in-hand down the street right now, you wouldn't even look twice.  But for some reason, seeing it on TV "grosses out" this insensitive Marie Claire writer.

In her article titled "Should 'Fatties' Get A Room (Even On TV?)", Maura Kelly believes Mike & Molly promotes obesity and there's no way people "as fat" as them could be healthy.  Then she goes off into all the health problems those actors must have and how much it costs the country to keep overweight people alive.  That might be true, but it doesn't change the fact that there are obese people in the world, and they fall in love all the time.  So why should we act like it doesn't exist on TV?

It's like this woman thinks people actually strive to be overweight!  I doubt that, but what I do think is that the show is easy for a lot of viewers to relate to.  And it's funny.  And it's sweet.

Finally there's a show where the main couple is realistic instead of an overweight husband with a hot wife that nobody ever seems to get offended by.  Examples: According To Jim, King Of Queens, even cartoons like The Simpsons and Family Guy.  But when the WOMAN is overweight too, OH MY GOD, they must be promoting obesity.  Did anyone ever feel influenced to purposely gain weight just from watching Roseanne back in the day?

Here's the superficial money quote where this vain bitch is comparing people with "rolls and rolls of fat" to heroin addicts and alcoholics:

"Yes, I think I'd be grossed out if I had to watch two characters with rolls and rolls of fat kissing each other ... because I'd be grossed out if I had to watch them doing anything. To be brutally honest, even in real life, I find it aesthetically displeasing to watch a very, very fat person simply walk across a room — just like I'd find it distressing if I saw a very drunk person stumbling across a bar or a heroine addict slumping in a chair."

I hope this Maura Kelly broad develops a thyroid problem and balloons up to 350 pounds one day.
